The Earth Has Been Available as Medicine for the Entire History of Human Life.

Direct electrical connection to the Earth's surface — what our ancestors experienced with every barefoot step on natural ground — has measurable anti-inflammatory, cortisol-regulating, and circulatory effects that modern life has largely eliminated. We restore that connection.

What Happens Biologically When the Body Connects to the Earth

The Earth's surface carries a negative electrical charge — an effectively unlimited reservoir of free electrons generated by atmospheric electrical activity and the planet's electromagnetic field. When the body makes direct electrical contact with the Earth (or with a conductive system connected to it), electrons flow from the ground into the body. Free radicals — the reactive oxygen species at the center of oxidative inflammatory damage — are electron-deficient molecules that are neutralized by the electrons grounding provides. This is not metaphor: peer-reviewed research has demonstrated that grounding measurably reduces inflammatory markers (including C-reactive protein and interleukins), normalizes the diurnal cortisol rhythm that chronic stress disrupts, reduces blood viscosity by improving the zeta potential of red blood cells, reduces pain, and improves sleep onset and quality. Grounding is not a fringe practice — it is the restoration of an electrical relationship with the natural world that human physiology evolved to depend on and that modern life has systematically eliminated.

The Experience

What a Session Feels Like

Grounding is among the most quietly restful experiences in the center. Clients lie on a conductive mat or sit with conductive contact at the feet and hands — the electrical connection to the Earth is established through the mat, which is connected to the grounding port of the building's electrical system. There is no sensation from the grounding current itself — it is far below the threshold of detection.

What most clients notice within the first ten to fifteen minutes is a settling — a quality of the nervous system finding a floor that it did not previously have. The kind of rest that arrives when the body stops bracing against an unseen demand. This is consistent with the cortisol normalization that grounding produces: the stress hormones that keep the system in low-grade alert begin to subside.

The effects of grounding are cumulative and most apparent in what clients notice between sessions: reduced baseline pain, improved sleep onset, less morning stiffness, and a general sense of what many clients describe as being more in their body. The clients who combine grounding with other modalities consistently report that the other therapies work more effectively — an observation consistent with the research showing that normalized inflammatory and electrical baseline improves cellular responsiveness across interventions.

The Evidence

What the Research Shows

Evidence Base

The grounding research, though a relatively young field, includes a growing body of peer-reviewed publications demonstrating specific biological effects. Key findings include: reductions in white blood cell counts and pro-inflammatory cytokines in subjects with chronic inflammation; normalization of the diurnal cortisol rhythm in subjects with disrupted sleep; measurable improvements in heart rate variability indicating parasympathetic activation; reduced blood viscosity through improved zeta potential of red blood cells (with direct implications for cardiovascular and circulatory health); and improved sleep onset, quality, and reported pain levels in multiple controlled studies.

Stacking Modalities

What This Combines Well With

Grounding creates the baseline electrical and inflammatory environment in which every other modality works more effectively.

Red Light

Both reduce oxidative stress and inflammation through different mechanisms — electron delivery from grounding and photobiomodulation from red light. Together they address the inflammatory environment from two distinct physical pathways.

PEMF

Grounding provides the Earth's natural electromagnetic baseline; PEMF adds targeted therapeutic frequencies. The combination addresses the electrical environment of cells at multiple levels simultaneously.

Infrared Sauna

Grounding after the sauna extends the parasympathetic state the sauna produces and adds the electrical anti-inflammatory effect to the thermal one.

Contrast Therapy

Grounding improves blood viscosity and red blood cell zeta potential — the circulatory quality that contrast therapy's vascular exercise then operates on.

Halotherapy

Both produce nervous system downregulation through different mechanisms — the combination produces a particularly deep parasympathetic state.

Zero Gravity Chair

Zero gravity chair combined with grounding mat: gravitational unloading and electrical connection to the Earth simultaneously — the two most deeply restoring passive experiences in the center.

The Earth’s Floor: What a Grounding Session Gives You

Neutralize

Floods your system with free electrons that instantly disarm the free radicals driving chronic inflammation.

Normalize

Resets your cortisol rhythm, pulling your nervous system out of a low-grade fight-or-flight state so real rest can begin.

Decompress

Improves the zeta potential of your red blood cells, thinning blood viscosity for fluid, effortless circulation.

The Deep Settling: The Shift You Feel After Each Session

A High-Voltage Energy Boost

Your nervous system forgets the invisible, subconscious bracing you carry all day.

Total Disappearance of Aches

A quiet, heavy rest arrives within fifteen minutes, signaling that your stress hormones are finally stepping down.

You’ll walk out feeling firmly anchored in your body, trademarking a shift from scattered mental loopings to physical presence.

Morning stiffness and joint friction go quiet as the systemic inflammatory markers in your blood subside.

You will drop into sleep with profound ease the night of your session, experiencing a deeper, more restorative sleep cycle.

Every other therapy you track works more effectively, because you’ve optimized your cellular baseline and lowered tissue resistance.

Your Grounding Experience: Why We Brought This to You

We introduced Grounding Therapy because modern environments leave us biologically ungrounded, unanchored, and chronically inflamed. Your cells operate on an electrical grid, and without contact with the Earth, that grid builds up positive static stress.

This therapy is the clinical answer to that separation. You don't have to navigate weather or trek into the wilderness to get it; we bring the Earth's raw, anti-inflammatory potential directly to you in a pristine, intentional space.

Ancient, Exact, and Grounded: Why Our Approach Is Unmatched

Evolutionary Science

We ground our practice with neurophysiology and cardiovascular research that impacts blood viscosity, cytokine reduction, and cortisol balance.

Compound Bio-Stacking

We strategically stack Grounding with modalities like Red Light or PEMF, using the Earth’s baseline to amplify your cellular responsiveness.

Environmental Sanctuary

We bridge the raw reality of ancient medicine with a luxurious, deeply quiet indoor environment, allowing you to unplug from modern electronic noise.

Your First Time in a Grounding Session

What to wear

Wear comfortable clothing that allows skin contact. The connection is most effective through bare skin, so expect to place your bare feet or hands directly.

Session length

Expect to spend 30 to 60 minutes in active connection

The Sensation

You will feel only the physical comfort of the mat and a deep, spreading sense of relaxation as your nervous system downregulates.

How you’ll feel

Immediately after, you’ll feel profoundly clear, steady, and physically "heavy" in the best way possible.

After your session

Pay attention to your sleep quality and morning mobility over the next 24 hours.

Tip:

The less you try to analyze or force a sensation, the faster your body drops its defensive posture and accepts the electron transfer.

The Electrical Relationship With the Earth That the Body Evolved to Depend on Is Available Here.

Grounding therapy is available on all pass tiers — the modality most often combined with others, and the one that consistently improves the effectiveness of everything around it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What People Ask

Functionally, yes — direct skin contact with natural ground (soil, grass, sand, concrete) produces the same electrical connection. The therapeutic grounding mat at CIT provides the same connection through a conductive surface connected to the building's ground, allowing the same electron transfer in a controlled indoor environment, combined with other modalities, and for the duration and consistency that produces meaningful biological effects.

Rubber and synthetic soles are electrical insulators that completely prevent electron transfer from the ground. Most modern flooring — carpet, vinyl, hardwood, concrete with sealant — also insulates. Prior to the widespread adoption of synthetic-soled footwear in the mid-twentieth century, humans spent far more time in direct electrical contact with the Earth — walking barefoot or in leather-soled shoes, sleeping on the ground, working in soil. The elimination of that contact is a measurable change in the electrical environment the body inhabits.

The current produced by therapeutic grounding is orders of magnitude below the threshold that would interact with implanted electrical devices. Grounding is safe for clients with pacemakers, defibrillators, and other implanted devices.

Research studies demonstrating measurable effects on cortisol and inflammatory markers have used sessions of 30 minutes or more. The sleep quality improvements in sleep studies were produced with overnight grounding. For cortisol normalization and pain effects, 30–60 minute sessions produce the most consistent results.

Our cold plunge is maintained at approximately 50–55°F (10–13°C) — within the research-supported therapeutic range. New clients begin with shorter cold exposures and build gradually. Most people find that what felt impossible in the first session becomes something they actively look forward to by the third or fourth.

Many cardiovascular conditions benefit from the controlled vascular exercise of contrast therapy. Certain conditions — including uncontrolled hypertension, recent cardiac events, and Raynaud's in acute phase — require modification or medical clearance. Our intake forms capture cardiovascular history and we configure protocols accordingly.

For athletic recovery and general circulatory health, two to three sessions per week produces the most consistent benefit. Daily contrast therapy is appropriate for high-level athletes in heavy training phases. The vascular adaptations build cumulatively — consistency over weeks produces meaningfully better outcomes than intensive short-term use.

Cold water immersion at therapeutic temperatures produces a 300% increase in norepinephrine — a neurotransmitter central to attention, focus, and mood — along with significant dopamine release. The mood and energy shift most clients describe is a direct consequence of these measurable neurochemical changes, not placebo.

We keep our plunges between 45°F and 55°F. It’s cold enough to trigger your "survival" healing mode without being dangerous.

Contrast therapy is a workout for your heart! However, if you have high blood pressure or heart conditions, you must consult your doctor before trying it.

No. You only need to go up to your shoulders to get the full benefits for your nervous system and circulation.

Most of our fans started out "hating the cold." The heat of the sauna makes the cold feel refreshing, and the feeling afterward is so good you'll keep coming back.

Beginners usually stay in for 1 to 2 minutes. As you get used to it, you can work up to 3 or 5 minutes, but you don't need much to see results!

Always listen to your body. If you feel dizzy, step out of the heat or cold immediately and sit down. Our guides are always nearby to help.
